Happy New Year to All!!

We hope you all are enjoying the holidays and are having a fun vacation! We are looking forward to returning to school and beginning a whole new year! As we move forward in the First Grade we will begin to work towards independence. The teachers will still be giving a great deal of guidance, but the students will begin to do things a little bit more independently as well. In Reading we will continue to explore all types of literature, and the challenge level will continue to increase. Our author of the month will remain Jan Brett for the month of January. She has so much material to explore and learn from that we could not possibly get to it all in the month of December. The students are really enjoying her, so we will continue to read her literature, explore her website and videos with the smartboard, as well as do the many activities she has created to accompany her books. In Science this month, we will learning all about animals and their habitats. We have many things to present and lots of activities around this subject that we will be doing on the smartboard. In Social Studies, the subject of community we be continued. In Math, the students will still be working on their basic math facts, alongside learning new concepts.
