Happy New Year!!

The new year begins with lots of exciting new art projects! Kindergarten students are creating mosaic vases holding beautiful flower drawings. In 1st grade, we are creating winter self-portraits to celebrate the season. In 2nd grade, we are creating Sun Gods inspired by the Aztecs.

In 3rd grade, we are learning about composition and exploring the concept through oil pastel drawings of our favorite sweets, just like artist Wayne Thiebaud. In 4th grade, we are studying the eye and its reflective qualities, creating close-up drawings of our own eyes with interesting reflections in them. 5th grade students are being challenged by creating self-portraits using paper collage.

In 6th grade, we are learning about pointillism and artists like Georges Seurat, and we are creating our own oil pastel landscapes using pointillism. In 7th grade, we are further developing our charcoal skills by creating expressive self-portraits from observation using charcoal. 8th grade students get to use clay in art class, as we invent creatures to scupt, and then draw our creatures in their environment.
