Happy New Year! Our first graders will be very busy reading, spelling, writing, practicing math facts, coloring, and making various winter projects that celebrate the month of January. We will be studying the Sacrament of Baptism and learning how through Baptism we become members of the church and followers of Jesus Christ. In Social Studies this month we will be learning about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and why he was such a great leader during the Civil Rights Movement. In Science, we will be learning about the weather. We will be making Weather Wheels to help us understand how the weather changes daily. The author of the month is Marc Brown. He is the creator of the Arthur series.

I have been teaching at St. Pius V since the late 1990s. I have taught third and first grade. I enjoy teaching first grade now because I help to provide my students with a foundation and love for learning. I graduated from Georgetown University with a degree in Philosophy. After graduating I went back to school for Education. I am now a parent of twin boys in the fifth grade here at St. Pius V.
