JUNIOR HIGH

SCHOOL YEAR GETS OFF TO A GREAT START!

With over 100 students in this year's junior high (grades 7 and 8), there is a lot to be excited about as the school year begins. This year's graduating class, all 58 students, have accepted their roles as leaders of the school. In conjunction with this year's theme for Catholic Schools Week, St. Pius V School will "Celebrate Service" throughout the 2008-2009 school year.

In the junior high, students will focus on the Corporal Works of Mercy and how each of us is called to live those Works of Mercy through our service to others. A group of students has already signed up to volunteer at My Brother's Table. My Brother's Table was founded in 1982 and is located in downtown Lynn. An average of 200 hungry, homeless, or lonely people are served dinner each day. As the year progresses, the junior high students will be encouraged to reach out to their neighbors through a variety of service projects.

The junior high has many exciting events planned for the Fall. The students are looking forward to their field trip to the Spirit of America presentation in Worcester. In the coming weeks, the seventh grade will participate in an outdoor retreat to Lynn Woods, while the eighth grade retreat will be held at Breakheart Reservation in Saugus.

There is a lot to be excited about with the beginning of the new school year. The students are excited about the upcoming junior high dance. The students are also anticipating the opening of the new Science Lab on the third floor.
